Hi Tim,
Some of my users are asking about options for item size or colour and things like this, or even at least a comment box for people to submit this kind of info before purchasing, as most auction sites allow users/sellers to do this. Is there any way we could implement this, and do you know of anything that will help me to learn how to hard code this in, as this is quite an important issue for us.
Thank you for your time and support,
Regards, Johnpeterhowe.

I'm assuming that this is something the winning bidder would select just before they click paynow button, rather than having to select the option each time you place a bid. Is that the sort of thing you were thinking?

Adding an additional field with various options to select would be fairly straight forward, but then you'd need to somehow pass this information though to the payment gateway (currently PayPal).

I'm currently working on rewriting BF Auction Plus based on FOF, so I'll add this as a feature to add to the new version.

By the way, if you want comments you can either install Komento or JComments, but anything you write will be visible by everyone, as there is currently no private messaging between the buyer and seller. This is probably something I'll address in a future version.

regards

Tim

Hi Tim,
what I meant more specifically, is options that must be selected on buy it now items, as auctions are usually just one item, and it is a predefined item or items, whereas with buy it now items, the seller has the same item in different colours or styles or sizes, or shapes, or can come with optional adapters and etc, so you would have to select the options before you click the "buy now" button on the main item page. Similar to the way eBay works, so you can have options on buy it now listings with multiple items on which you have to select the option before you press buy now, but proper auctions have no options as they are a set predefined item, that you cannot change, and there will only be one person winning the one item or group of items from the one auction, whereas the buy it now auctions can have multiple items/sets of items and can have multiple winners, but require options for things like colours and sizes, whereas a proper auction would have the colour and size in the title or the description. As for passing the option info through the payment gateway, this is unnecessary as this information only needs to be forwarded to the seller. If you added a way that the seller can see each of their orders from buy it now auctions with multiple items, then each order could have all necessary information like: name, address & postcode, contact numbers, and all the options that have been selected. Then they can use BF auction sites to track their orders as well, leaving paypal as just a payment gateway, and keeping people using your extension and our site, not to mention that it will build more interest in your extension and our website. But in any case I am sure that it would be easier to get the info from options for colour, size, etc... directly to the seller rather than through to the payment gateway (PayPal). If you cannot have orders managed through BF auction then maybe an automatic order email sent to the sellers email address that they must include somehow?

Thank you for your time, patience and help,

HI Johnpeterhowe,
If it's only required on the buy now, then these additional fields could potentially be added to the /components/com_bfauction_plus/views/buynow/tmpl/default.php view.

To save the information provided in the additional fields, you'd need to modify the commitBuyNow function in /components/com_bfauction_plus/controller.php

Anyway, I'll keep this in mind as I work on the new FOF version.

Tim

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the information, also is there any way that the users can specify their own options for these dropdown fields i.e. which sizes, colours, and types that they actually stock? Otherwise I will have to manually ask everyone for this information, which will undoubtedly become a rather difficult as we get more members and more items. On a side note, how long roughly do you expect it will be before the beta version is released?

Thank you for your time, patience and support,

I am sorry to say this, but the main page for my support tickets says you replied to this on 17th July, but when I come to this page I see no response from the 17th July. I am unsure as of what has happened here, but can you please re-send your reply or email it to me as something has gone a bit wrong, I am unsure whether it is a fault with my browser or the support ticket section itself?

Regards,
John
